THE HISTORY OF ASERAI
The Founding
Aserai was founded about 150 years ago in a fertile valley located where the desert meets the ocean. The City was founded by a successful landlord and savvy pearl merchant by the name of Hamed, who is also an ancestor of the Sultan of Aserai. During Hamed’s travels southward in search of more suitable land, he found a valley surrounded by the ocean with an ideal climate to expand the pearling industry. It was there that he decided to establish his dynasty and from then onwards, Aserai was regarded as a fishing village. The initial aim was to build a safe capital city guarded by the surrounding steep cliffs and ocean. An impressive wall was built to protect the early settlers of Aserai stretching wide from the northern border of the settlement known today as the Aserai Historical Neighborhood down to the southern border where the Grand Mosque is situated.
The Beginning
In the early days the livelihood of Aserai relied heavily on fishing, pearl diving and boat building, as well as providing housing and sustenance for merchants and traders that frequented the area to sell their spices, gold and rare textile goods. As the influence of Aserai grew along with its sprawling population, the wall served as an intermediary boundary where the royal palace, harem and councilman lived within the perimeter and new housing continued to develop beyond. By the time a maritime truce was met with local rulers to enable open trade routes, business was booming and demand for housing soared. This was the beginning of a broader involvement with countries all over the world, putting Aserai as the pinnacle center of tourism, trade and business activity.

The Development
As a savvy trading port city, Aserai made a number of clever business decisions including the implementation of new rules to grant tax exemption for expatriates. The result was yet another huge growth in trade due to the sudden influx of many foreigners moving to the city and entering the service sector. Wealthy sheikhs made their home in Aserai to take advantage of the excellent business conditions as well. This successful period of Aserai's history was a solid path to its success today, but there was a time when the region faced great economic threat. With the growing popularity and business in the creation of artificial pearls in the Far East, Aserai went into a decade of financial downturn that luckily didn't last for long. After a short-lived period of financial dwindling and uncertainty everything changed for the better for Aserai: it struck oil.
The Advancement
Oil revenue helped accelerate the development of the city, which was already a major mercantile hub. It was this discovery that generated the revenue necessary to transform Aserai into a modern port, impressive city and elite social hub. It was this series of pivotal phases that steadily grew Aserai from a small oasis to the most favorite holiday destination of young travelers the wealthy and sheikhs the world over.
Today, Aserai's economy relies on revenues from trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services. Tourists and locals enjoy great sources of fishing in the area and can explore the rich history and enjoy walking along the beautiful waters of Aserai Creek. True to the sultanate's heritage, the Main Plaza of Aserai is a bustling epicenter with yachts in the marina, and visitors of diverse backgrounds. Today, Aserai looks to the future with ambitious building and social projects under great leadership and vision.
Today, even with all the massive changes the sultanate has undergone, the dynasty continues to rule Aserai. This glimmering, bustling modern desert kingdom, is currently under the rule of a Sultan, his daughter, Princess Aliyana.
Aserai is a melting pot of social classes home to Sheikhs, princes from afar, and princesses from other lands find their place in the luxurious mansions, as the wealthy tend to live closer to the Sultan’s palace. A dark underclass of lost tourists, poor and uneducated members of society, and those of low class are often taken in as servant staff to serve those of superior class. Skilled servants tend to serve the highest and royal classes. The Sultan's Palace, which shines brightly every hour of the day, amazes those who see it. The sultan is assisted by the council of various diplomats who assist the ruler in the administration of the city. The city of Aserai is protected by the enforcers and its values and traditions are upheld by the esteemed members of The Royal Honor Guard.
